Caves Valley Paintings and Prints

Caves Valley Golf Club, in Owings Mills northwest of Baltimore, opened in 1991. Tom Fazio designed it on a large tract of rolling countryside in the Maryland horse country, and it quickly became one of the most highly regarded modern courses in the Mid-Atlantic.

The course moves between open, rolling meadow and thick hardwood forest, crossing creeks and wetlands, with long views over the surrounding farmland. As in much of Fazio's work, the holes are framed so that each one feels set apart from the others, and the changes in elevation are part of the design. The 18th, a par 4, sweeps back toward the clubhouse with rolling hills and tall trees around it.

Caves Valley has hosted the 2002 U.S. Senior Open, the 2014 International Crown, the 2017 Senior Players Championship and the 2021 BMW Championship, one of the PGA Tour's season-ending playoff events.

The land, more than 900 acres of hills, pasture, woods and wetland overlooking Caves Valley about 20 minutes from Baltimore, was acquired in 1986, and Fazio was hired that year. The clubhouse is a converted farmhouse overlooking the valley. Before its professional events, the course hosted amateur and collegiate championships, among them the NCAA Division I men's championship in 2005, the women's championship in 2009 and the Palmer Cup in 2007.
