Aronimink Paintings and Prints

Aronimink Golf Club was founded in 1896 and moved to its present site in Newtown Square, west of Philadelphia, in the 1920s, where Donald Ross designed the course that opened in 1928. It is among the best-regarded of Ross's many courses in the Northeast. Over time much of his work was softened or altered; Ron Prichard restored elements of it in 2003, and Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner carried out a fuller restoration in 2018, working from old photographs and plans to rebuild bunkers and green shapes.

The course covers rolling, open land with long views across the property. Ross used the slopes rather than fighting them, placing greens on natural rises and turning holes along the contours, and the greens have the pronounced tilt that characterizes his work. The clubhouse sits high on the property and overlooks much of the course.

Aronimink hosted the PGA Championship in 1962, when Gary Player won, and again in 2026. It has also hosted the 1977 U.S. Amateur, the 2003 Senior PGA Championship, PGA Tour events including the 2018 BMW Championship, and the 2020 KPMG Women's PGA Championship.

When the PGA Championship returned in 2026, it was played on the restored course, and the championship gave a wide audience its first look at Hanse and Wagner's work to bring back Ross's design.
